Claudia Lorenzi: The Tre Cime di Lavaredo

The Ciasa Lorenzi hotel is a spectacular balcony overlooking the Dolomites.

From its windows and terraces you can comfortably admire the mountains that have made Cortina d’Ampezzo famous all over the world: Rocchette, Becco di Mezzodì, Croda Da Lago, Nuvolau, Tofane, Pomagagnon, Cristallo just to name a few. But I always recommend to add to this round up of peaks also a visit to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the undisputed symbol of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage.

Cima Grande, Cima Ovest, Cima Piccola… Names on which pages of mountaneering history have been written, since the first ascent to the Cima Grande on the 21st of August 1869 by the Viennese climber Paul Grohmann. Nowadays the fame of the Tre Cime attracts many visitors. Somebody decides to reach them by bike, someone else walking and some others climbing: everybody has the possibility to admire the majesty and everchanging colors of these peaks, from pale pink in the morning to the fiery red of the sunsets.

During wintertime the Tre Cime can be reached on a snow-covered groomed road, with snowshoes, backcountry skis or a snowmobile from Antorno Lake, a wonderful pool of water near the spectacular and more famous Misurina Lake.
